"Do the Right Thing" Coalition

To improve the quality of care provided to persons with disabilities

The "Do the Right Thing Coalition", is a cooperative effort of 400 advocacy, association, private provider and other entities supporting persons with disabilities in Illinois.

The Coalition was formed in response to Illinois' crisis in care for its citizens with developmental and other disabilities. Their health, welfare and safety are at risk due to the State's lack of planning and concern. Thousands of individuals are in need of but unable to obtain residential and day support programs. Time spent in special education is negated by the lack of continuity into any adult-based services. Illinois has no strategic disability plan because it refuses to count the number of people in need of disability support services.

The Coalition has created a "Governor's White Paper" addressing the most significant issues facing individuals with developmental disabilities in Illinois. Feel free to copy and distribute this information to local and statewide legislative officials.
